Elizabeth
Darby started writing songs in 1978. She started her college
career as a music major but switched to English when she was offered a
full scholarship in Journalism and English. In 1979 she and Philadelphian George
Shinn wrote a 2-act musical called Stages,
with 20 original songs.
Nancy
Bringhurst and Darby became
writing partners a few years ago when they were both teaching at the same
independent school and have many songs in their repertoire. When Darby
collaborates with Bringhurst she
writes the music only.
Darby
currently teaches English as a Second Language at the University of
Pennsylvania, primarily in the business English programs.
She plays
accompanies piano violist, Victoria Matosich,
in area restaurants and private parties. Darby has
written a song for the restaurant where she and Matosich have played for
10 years, and it will be recorded and launched very soon. Their latest
song is 'Song for Women,'
a celebration of how far women have come.
Darby
also writes instrumental music for films. She has just started a new
business, that of writing personal songs for all special occasions.
She and Bringhurst
have written a song entitled "Women's Song" which will be
launched at a benefit concert for Beyond Breast Cancer in Philadelphia on
June 15, and will be sung by singer Eileen
Duffy.
