Frank Murphy was born in Philadelphia on August 4, 1922 and graduated from Mastbaum High School as a music major. He remembers playing his first gig at the New Garden Cafe in Philadelphia in 1940. Frank played french horn in the U.S. Navy Band at Bainbridge, Maryland from 1942 to 1946. After discharge. he returned to Philadelphia and over the years has played with Alex Bartha's Steel Pier Band in Atlantic City, the Dave Chaiken Orchestra, Bunch Hammond, Larry LaBes, Rudy Jones and many, many others.
